A Message From the President |
Ralph Ferrer |
3/23/2009
Mga Kapwa POGI:
Hibernation is over and it’s time to be excited about golf |
once again. I’m happy to report that the General Meeting last March 7th at the Woodbridge Public Library generated so much enthusiasm that even in this so-called “Recession” or “Financial Crisis,” we're able to find ways to enjoy golf.
If you haven’t renewed your membership yet, you might want to check with our Treasurer, Dino Del Rosario, if there are still open spots. Our 50-member cap is still in effect.
I’m encouraged that in my 2nd year as your president and my 8th year as a POGI member, we only see players getting better each year. In 2008, we saw for the first time a rookie member, Omar Chavez earn the first-ever POGI Player of the Year honors. Let’s see what he can do in 2009. Omar will certainly have plenty of competition. I heard that Mario Balmater will prove to everyone that he belongs in class A. Do I hear Amen or A something?
Our regular season officially starts on March 28th with the Stroke Play competition. There are many changes to the competition that I hope our commissioner Dennis De Leon will publish very soon. The Match Play competition, headed by Nestor Geslani, will also introduce some changes that should make the competition more manageable and exciting. All I can say is watch out for the Cary Africa vs. James London pairing. I can already see James gaining tremendous support and why not -- he is a London and he is up against a mighty Goliath in Cary.
All the other tournaments will be announced shortly, but one that ought to be mentioned is the Monty Benefit Tour (official name to follow). In case you haven’t heard, we’re holding a fund-raising tournament for Monty and before you start going emo, NO he is not dying, he is just taking a few regular trips to the hospital for dialysis. It is a serious condition and a very stressful process as well as financially draining. A little bit of financial help from POGI and others will go a long way for Monty. I’m sure Monty will appreciate any contribution.
So what are you guys waiting for? Bring your clubs out of the closet, get your shoes laced and most of all, RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP! Unless of course you’d rather join that “Other Club”.
Sincerely,
Your president,
Ralph Ferrer |
